Brazilian international striker Ronaldo contributed two goals after 13 and 82 minutes while former Atletico player Santiago Solari added one more for Real in the 80th.

The win left Real seven points adrift of leaders Barcelona, who suffered a 3-0 loss at Villarreal after Sunday’s match.

In other Spanish matches, Espanyol beat Osasuna 4-1 to move into the top four; Alberto Luque scored twice to give Deportivo La Coruna a 2-2 draw at next-to-last Mallorca; and Racing Santander beat Malaga 2-1 in a battle of clubs facing relegation. Albacete beat Real Sociedad 2-0 for its second road win in nine games, and Sevilla lost 1-0 at Real Zaragoza to slip out of the top four.
