A senior Chinese legislator says China hopes the United States will not send the wrong signals to Taiwan separatists.

Cheng Siwei, vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress was speaking at a meeting with a visiting US congressional delegation Saturday in Beijing.

Cheng Siwei reaffirmed China's firm stance on the Taiwan question, which he said could only be solved in line with the "one-China" policy.

He also stressed the vital importance of the anti-secession law to China.

Cheng Siwei added that although the two countries still have some unsolved problems, more contacts will improve friendship and cooperation.

Head of the delegation, Curt Weldon praised China's positive role in pushing the six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear program and repeated the US will adhere to the "one-China" policy.

The US delegation earlier visited North Korea, South Korea and Japan.
