Chinese police successfully rescued seven hostages at gun-point in a domestic kidnapping in Jiujiang in east China's Jiangxi Province Wednesday evening.

One kidnapper was shot dead and the other wounded by police.

Two men with guns and knives broke into the apartment of Chen Gang, vice chairman of Jiujiang's Fujian Chamber of Commerce Tuesday evening. They seized seven people in the apartment, including Chen's wife, three children, brother, sister-in-law and a friend. They demanded one million yuan (about 120,481 US dollars) in ransom, according to the police.

Chen was not at Jiujiang at the time, police said.

After hours of negotiation, the kidnappers reduced the ransom to 600,000 yuan (about 72,289 US dollars). They released three kids and the two male hostages Wednesday morning, demanding that the two men return with ransom in the evening.

After failing to persuade the kidnappers to surrender, the police launched a carefully-planned rescue action at 18:22 p.m. with the cooperation of the two male hostages.

Two armed-police were slightly injured. The wounded kidnapper was taken to a local hospital.
