Building management plays matchmaker
Managers of an office building in Shanghai don't just collect the rent and repair broken equipment, they also set up parties and other events to help office workers in the building with a date. "There are many internationally famous companies like Microsoft Corporation and Exxon Mobil Corporation in our building," said Wang Feiyue of Shanghai Metro Culture and Entertainment Co Ltd, which manages Metro City. Many of the people working for those companies are very busy and don't have time to make new friends, said Wang. Over the past couple of years, the company has organized several activities such as sporting events, and singing and photo contests. A woman surnamed Qiao who works for Lectra Systems (Shanghai) Co Ltd in the building said she is impressed by the various activities the management company has offered. "If I am free, I'd like to take part in every activity," said Qiao. She did say however that it is awkward to arrive at some of the events alone. Wang said the company just wants to provide a chance for office workers to get to know each other. "Many of them meet each other in the elevator or corridor every day," said Wang. "But they never have a chance to talk." More than 2,000 people work in the building, according to Wang.
