Chinese international fullback Sun Jihai has signed a new contract with English Premier League side Manchester City, with an extension of two years.

The new contract gives Sun an extension of two years in the club: Sun will serve the team till summer in 2006, while the Manchester City has priority to sign the player in the second year.

Sun transferred to the club from Chinese supremos Dalian Shide in Feb 2002 and signed a three-year contract, which was due to expire this June.

Sun is one of the best footballers in China and has been a much-talked-about figure in Chinese media. His injury and the resignation of former manager Kavin Keagan, who has a high opinion of the Chinese player, have made the new contract a hot issue in China.
