The world's top athletics competition, the IAAF Grand Prix, will come to China in September.

Shanghai will join the IAAF Grand Prix calendar for the next five years, and is expected to host the Golden League in 2009.

The Shanghai stop will have 14 events, including men's 110m hurdles and women's 5,000m race. Over a dozen of world champions, Olympic champions and world record holders are expected to descend in Shanghai for the tournament.

Under the IAAF rules, a city has to stage lower level of competitions before it can apply to host higher level tournament. Shanghai submitted its application for the elite tournament early this year, citing that the city has successfully hosted various international competitions.

Shanghai, China's largest metropolitan, won the right to stage the IAAF GP this month.

Organizers has invited American sprinter Allen Johnson to join local star Liu Xiang for a news conference scheduled for Friday.
