Haiti rebel leader killed in shoot-out By CRI Updated: 2005-04-10 09:46 One
of the leaders of an armed revolt that ousted Haiti's ex-President Jean-Bertrand
Aristide last year has been killed in a shoot-out with Haitian police and UN
civilian police.
UN spokesman Daniel Moskaluk said Remissainthe Ravix,
who led disgruntled members of Haiti's disbanded military, was killed during a
joint operation by Haitian and UN police in Port-au-Prince.
Moskaluk
said Ravix was killed when he tried to resist arrest by firing at the police and
UN police after a raid on a complex in the Delmas industrial district where he
and several of his supporters had taken refuge.
Ravix was one of the
leaders of an armed rebellion that forced Aristide to flee into exile on
February 29 last year.
He was also wanted by Haitian police in
connection with the killing of four policemen in February.
