Raikkonen wins Spanish Grand Prix (Agencies) Updated: 2005-05-08 21:51
McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen flew from pole position to the chequered flag to win
the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, the Finn's third Formula One victory.
Raikkonen, whose previous victories came in Malaysia in 2003 and Belgium last
year, spoiled the homecoming of Renault's championship leader Fernando Alonso,
who finished second ahead of Italian Jarno Trulli in a Toyota.
Seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher, who had won the last four
Spanish grands prix, retired with 18 laps remaining after one of his tyres
failed him when he was running in third place.
The field was reduced to 18 cars by the absence of the BAR team, who were
starting a two-race ban for a breach of technical regulations at the last round
in Imola.
