Olympique Marseille coach Philippe Troussier dismissed speculation he is about to leave the club following a series of poor results.

"I will not give up. I will stand and face up to my responsibilities," Troussier said in an interview with La Provence on Monday.

The former Japan coach said he had the support of the club's major shareholder, Robert-Louis Dreyfus.

"He told me I had to close ranks. He is supporting me as he has always done," he said.

Marseille lost hope of securing a Champions League berth next season when they slumped to a 3-2 shock home defeat to struggling Caen on Saturday.

They are fourth in the Ligue 1 standings with 53 points from 35 games. With three match days remaining, they lie five points adrift third-placed Monaco and only one above fifth-placed Stade Rennes.

"We still can clinch a UEFA Cup spot," said Troussier, who added he could stay at the club next season.

"I'm still involved in building the club's future."
