Pele says midfielder Rivaldo could still have a role to play in Brazil's team for the 2006 World Cup.

The 33-year-old Rivaldo, currently playing for top Greek side Olympiakos Piraeus, has barely figured with the national team since helping them win the World Cup in 2002.

"There are a number of players in his position but Rivaldo is a very gifted player so if he is fit he can certainly make it," said Pele, who was in Greece to open new training facilities at FC Xanthi.

"He still has the talent."

Rivaldo recently told the Brazilian newspaper Diario do Sao Paulo that he was keen to return to the national team for the World Cup.

"I wouldn't mind even being a substitute," he said. "I would be very happy if I have the chance to play at least a few minutes in any game.

"I know that there are currently players in the same position who are having very good performances like Kaka and Alex, but I would be very happy if I could at least be part of the group of players that will go to Germany.

"I know that it's very difficult to be recalled, but I have trust in my quality and in a coach who knows me and knows what I can give to the team."
