Olyumpic men's 110 metres hurdles champion Liu Xiang announced on Friday he will train in France during the track and field season as he prepares for the world championships in Helsinki.

China's Liu equalled the world record of 12.91 seconds in Athens to become the first man from the world's most populous nation to win Olympic track and field gold.

"I'm not concentrating on breaking the world record, that's going to happen eventually. I am more concerned with winning some more major events," Liu told a news conference in Beijing.

"I want to win some world championships."

Liu, who won a bronze medal at the 2003 world championships in Paris, set this year's fastest time with a 13.12 run at the Japan Grand Prix on May 7.

Training in France will give the 22-year-old Liu a chance to size up one of his main rivals, French hurdler Ladji Doucoure, who won the 60 metres event at the European indoor championships in Madrid in March.

Liu said he still had weak spots in his form, but was confident he could iron them out during his career.

"Most track athletes peak around the age of 26. That means I have plenty of time," he said.
