10 Athens vets on US women's soccer squad
Ten veterans of the U.S. women's soccer team that won a gold medal at the Athens Olympics will be among 24 players training for the new squad's first home match of the year. The game will be played against Canada on June 26 in Virginia Beach, Va. So far, no other games have been announced. The team will be headed by Abby Wambach, whose 31-goal performance in 2004 was the second best scoring year in U.S. history. The team also includes new captain Kristine Lilly and Shannon Boxx, who has started 45 of the team's last 48 games. New coach Greg Ryan also added Tiffeny Milbrett, who hasn't played for the United States since November 2003, following disagreements with former coach April Heinrichs. Milbrett has 99 goals and has played in 199 games for the United States. The team: Goalkeepers: Nicole Barnhart, Kristin Luckenbill, Hope Solo; Defenders: Lori Chalupny, Tina Frimpong, Lindsey Huie, Amy LePeilbet, Kate Markgraf, Heather Mitts, Nandi Pryce, Cat Reddick; Midfielders: Boxx, Lorrie Fair, Angela Hucles, Lilly, Marci Miller, Lindsay Tarpley, Aly Wagner; Forwards: Danielle Fotopoulos, Milbrett, Heather O'Reilly, Amy Rodriguez, Wambach, Christie Welsh.
