S.Korea's Park can become new Giggs: Ferguson (Agencies) Updated: 2005-07-15 09:40
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson believes new signing Park Ji-sung
could emerge as a successor to Old Trafford favourite Ryan Giggs.
Manchester United's new signing, Park
Ji-sung of South Korea (L), poses with club manager Sir Alex Ferguson at
Old Trafford in Manchester July 14, 2005. Ferguson believes new signing
Park could emerge as a successor to Old Trafford favourite Ryan Giggs.
[Reuters] | Giggs, who has played over 600 games
for United, remains a key part of the Premier League club's squad after signing
a new two-year deal during the close season.
But Ferguson sees 24-year-old Park, a four million pounds ($7.07 million)
signing from PSV Eindhoven, as a potential future alternative to the Wales
winger.
United's manager told a news conference on Thursday: "You've got to look at
the age of Ryan Giggs at 31.
"You think of Ryan going up and down that left wing for the past 15 years and
no player in the premier division has lasted that long and done what he has
achieved in that period.
"We have to view that very importantly and I think Ji Sung will give us
fantastic energy and speed on either side."
