Athens bronze medallists Russia stunned Asian champions China 76-64 to take the title of the 2005 International Women's Basketball Tournament in Shanghai on July 15.

With the dominance inside the key, Russia led from the very beginning and enlarged the gap by every quarter on the way.

Leading the first quarter 19-15, Russia ran away 39-29 at the half break after collecting four points through a flurry of dazzling team-up between center Tatiana and point guard Oxana.

China, who beat Russia last week, fought hard to close the margin to nine points in the third quarter but Russia's 15-12 run in the fourth quarter ended China's comeback dream.

llona Korstin led the Russians with 22 points and eight rebounds, Tatiana Shchegol contributed 16 points and six rebounds, while Elen Shakirova added 13 points.

Zhang Xiaoni led the hosts with 18 points and six rebounds, Song Liwei grabbed 13 points and seven rebounds, while center Chen Nan only added three points and two rebounds.

"I'm really disappointed about the way we lost the game, our players did not fully concentrate on the game," said China's Australian coach Tom Maher.

"Russia deserves the win, they did much better then us, no matter in defense or in offense, we have too much to learn from them, and I think my players will get better later," added Maher.
