striker Owen has long been linked with a return to the Premiership after just
one season at the Bernabeu, as reports suggest that Real officials are happy for
him to leave.
But England captain Beckham is adamant that Owen, who scored 14 goals last
season despite primarily starting from the substitutes' bench, should stay in
Spain.
"Michael is a great player and I think he is happy here," said Beckham.
"Obviously, I want him to stay and hope that is what happens because he is a
brilliant striker and he is a good friend."
Despite Beckham's call for Owen to stay, it appears that Real are continuing
to pursue Brazilian striker Robinho, which would seemingly limit the
25-year-old's chances even further.
Liverpool, who Owen left last season for ? million, and Manchester United
have both been linked with a move for the player, but neither are thought to
have made any firm approach for him.
