Forum on Pan-Pearl River Delta cooperation opens in Sichuan

The 2nd Pan-Pearl River Delta (Pan-PRD) Regional Cooperation and Development Forum opened in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province on Monday.

The forum is jointly sponsored by nine provinces and regions in the Pan-PRD region, which encompasses Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan, as well as Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.

Many senior officials attended the opening ceremony, including Hua Jianmin, State Councilor and Secretary-General of the State Council, Zhang Xuezhong, secretary of Sichuan provincial committeeof the Communist Party of China (CPC), Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Ho Hau Wah, Chief Executive of Macao Special Administrative Region.

The four-day forum will focus on the theme of "cooperative development and jointly creating future".

Since the first Pan-PRD Regional Cooperation and Development Forum, Pan-PRD regional cooperation has showed vigorous developingmomentum, especially in economy, transportation, energy, science, education, tourism and agriculture, said Zhang Xuezhong.

The activity will hold Capital Market Forum, Modern logistics Development Forum and Intellectual Property Protection Forum.

The Pan-Pearl River Delta Region, known as 9+2, comprises Guangdong, Hainan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hunan, Jiangxi and Fujian provinces and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and theHong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.

The land space of the eight provinces and one autonomous regionaccounts for one-fifth of Chinese mainland's total space. Its population and economic strength account for one third of the mainland's total.
