The two countries signed three official documents, including an agreement on economic and technical co-operation.

Mugabe yesterday also visited the city's Foreign Affairs University, where he was awarded an honorary professorship.

The 81-year-old president was a teacher from 1942 to 1960, before devoting himself to Zimbabwe's national independence movement.

Shortly after the ceremony, Mugabe delivered his first lecture at the university, speaking about democracy, United Nations reform and Zimbabwe's one-China policy.
