Two-time defending champion Luo Xuejuan failed to step onto the podium in the 100m breaststroke in Montreal.

Athens Olympic gold medallist, Luo Xuejuan, could only manage fourth place in the 100m breaststroke at the World Swimming Championships in Montreal.

Australian veteran Leisel Jones captured the gold medal in 1:06.25.

Jones, who saw rival Jessica Hardy beat her world record in the event in Monday's semi-finals, admitted the victory made up for a lot of disappointments after she failed to win gold at the past two world meets and the Athens Olympics.

Hardy, was second in the final in a time of 1:06.62, got the silver and American Tara Kirk took the bronze in 1:07.43.
