Ferguson has the cash if he wants Owen
(China Daily)

Liverpool have already signed former Southampton striker Peter Crouch for seven million pounds.

It was a similar story at Highbury where Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger told Sky Sports: "At the moment I'm not looking for a striker. I'm looking at some other areas."

"I have not made any approach for Michael Owen," he added.

Madrid have said they would listen to offers for Owen following the signing Brazilian strikers Julio Baptista and Robinho.

Owen has now slipped to fifth in the Bernabeu pecking order, behind the new arrivals and Raul and Ronaldo.

The 25-year-old cost Madrid eight million pounds last summer and they are expected to seek a profit, however United may be in a strong position if they are the only bidding club.

The 25-year-old knows he cannot afford to sit on the bench with the World Cup finals fast approaching, although he is believed to have already ignored overtures from Newcastle.
