She faces tough competition though, from a star-studded stable of actresses going for the coveted award that includes Monica Bellucci, Gwyneth Paltrow and Isabelle Huppert.

"Everlasting Regret," which was directed by Stanley Kwan and costarred Tony Leung and Hu Jun, has also been nominated for the festival's Best Film Award.

Other Chinese films invited to take part in this year's festival include Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain," young female director Li Yu's "Rosy Cheeks" and Jackie Chan's "The Myth."

The festival has a strong Chinese touch this year, with Hong Kong director Tsui Hark¡¯s martial arts epic ¡°Seven Swords¡± opening the festival and Peter Chan¡¯s musical ¡°Perhaps Love¡± closing it.

The festival will be held from Aug. 31 to Sept. 10.
