China wins East Asian soccer championship
China won the East Asian Football Federation Championship on Sunday after beating North Korea 2-0 as South Korea lost to Japan 1-0.
China finished the tournament with five points, followed by Japan with four points. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) was third with four points and two less goals. China also won the prize of 500,000 US dollars. China's Li Yan coverted a penalty in the 12th minute, after his teammate Xie Hui fell down in the penalty area as a result of a push by the DPRK player Cha Jong Hyok while fighting for the ball.
The DPRK poured all their efforts into equalizing the match early in the second half, but Park Song Kwan's header off a cross went slightly over the bar in the 58th minute, and Kim Chol Ho wasted a golden opportunity with a misstep after finding himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Chinese forward Xie Hui hammered a cross from the left into thecorner of the near post in the 64th minute for his team's second goal.
