Nine killed in Jakarta house fire (Xinhua) Updated: 2005-08-10 13:33
A huge fire was blazing in a house in West Jakarta just before dawn
Wednesday, killing at least nine people in the house.
The fire brigade came too late while neighbors could not help much as the
house is surrounded by a tall fence, reported the Detikcom online news service.
All nine bodies were found on a balcony in the house, which belongs to a
vessel rental owner identified only as Tony. He was among the dead.
The bodies were sent to the Cipto Mangunkusuo hospital, only four of them
have been identified.
Police said the house was engulfed in flames at 04:45 and the fire brigade
came at around 06:00. The fire was allegedly caused by an explosion of gas-fired
stove.
