Zhou Haibin salvages draw for Shandong
BEIJING – Zhou Haibin netted his third goal of the season to help Shandong Luneng salvage a 2-2 with fellow AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Shenzhen Jianlibao in the China Super League during the weekend.
Shandong, who meet AFC Champions League holders Al Ittihad in the quarter-finals next month, got off to the worst possible start in Shenzhen as they quickly fell behind to the current China Super League champions, midfielder Lu Bofei finding the net within a minute of kickoff. Gao Yao got the China FA Cup holders back on level terms in the fifth minute but Li Jianhua struck eight minutes before half time to put the home side back on top. Zhou scored his side’s second equalizer in the 76th minute but Shandong dropped one spot to fifth and now find themselves a massive 14 points behind frontrunners Dalian. Dalian rolled to their 14th win in 17 matches with a narrow 1-0 victory against third from bottom Shanghai Zobon thanks to an own goal by Zobon forward Yang Lin in the 35th minute. Tianjin Teda, who began the day in second place, were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw at home by Chongqing Qiche, who are second from last in the standings. Wu Qing gave the visitors the lead on 54 minutes but South African midfielder Bennett Mnguni drew Tianjin level a minute later. Shanghai Shenhua took over second place as Zhang Yuning scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against Liaoning, while Wuhan Huanghelou moved up to fourth place thanks to a stoppage time winner by Yang Kunpeng against Sichuan Guangcheng. Last-placed Shenyang Ginde played out a goalless draw with Inter Shanghai and Qingdao Zhongneng edged Beijing Hyundai 1-0 in other matches.
