British soldier killed, three hurt in Iraq attack (AFP) Updated: 2005-09-11 18:25
A British serviceman was killed and three injured in an late-morning bomb
attack in Iraq's southern Basra province, the Ministry of Defence said without
giving further details.
The attack came six days after two British soldiers in an armoured
four-wheel-drive vehicle were killed in a roadside bombing near Al-Zubair,
southwest of Basra city.
The overall number of British personnel in Iraq who have died as a result of
combat, accident or natural causes now stands at 95, including those killed in
Sunday's attack, according to a defence ministry tally.
In late July, two British security contractors were also killed when a
consular convoy was attacked by a roadside bomb on the outskirts of Basra,
headquarters of the British military presence in oil-rich southern Iraq.
The number of US military personnel killed in Iraq since the US and British
invasion in March 2003 that toppled Saddam Hussein's regime now stands at at
least 1,884, according to an AFP count based on Pentagon
figures.
