Storm Damrey to hit south China
The tropical storm Damrey, number 18 of this year, will land in south China from Saturday night to Sunday morning. Liu Ming, from the Fujian Provincial Meteorological Observatory says the municipality is calling for the fishing vessels and their crew to evacuate. "We have called for all the fishing vessels to return to the harbor. Crews working in coastal waters have also been evacuated as the upcoming storm is very severe," said Li. Fujian municipality has evacuated over seven thousand fishing vessels and 120 thousand fishermen from dangerous areas. The storm is moving westward at a speed of 10 to 15 km per hour and will land on the areas between Hainan and Guangdong provinces in southern China. Influenced by Damrey, the sea near Hainan sees strong winds measuring 11 on the Beaufort Scale in the maximum. The observatory urges the flood control departments in southern provinces to make preparations against possible disasters.
