Chinese women keep world mark crack momentum at National Games (Xinhua) Updated: 2005-10-12 10:23
Ouyang Xiaofang from Liaoning Province lifted 260kg Tuesday evening in the
women's 63kg category to give her province first gold medal in weightlifting
tournament at the National Games.
All of her snatch, jerk and the total results bettered the world record by
5kg, 2kg and 12.5kg respectively.
Ouyang Xiaofang snatched 120kg in her second lift, upsetting the world record
held by Athens Olympic champion Anna Batsiushka of Belarus by 5kg.
The 22-year-old girl kept her waves to shatter the world mark by lifting
140kg in the jerk thus totaled at 260kg, smashing the word record of the jerk by
Natalia Skakun of Ukraine, 138kg, and the total by Chinese Liu Xia, 247.5kg.
Yan Xiaoli of Shandong finished second at 255kg. Wang Zhu from the host
Jiangsu had the bronze at 252.5kg.
"I displayed my best performance in training. It is amazing," Ouyang said
excitedly after the competition.
"The competition at the National Games was quite fierce, but Xiaofang
withstood the pressure. She has the ability to take part in the Beijing Olympics
in 2008," Ouyang's coach Li Xiuying told the press.
