Tornadoes hit Iowa of the United States Saturday afternoon, killing at least
one person and injuring two, according to reports reaching here.
Authorities said, at least three tornadoes swept central Iowa, destroying at
least two dozen homes in Stratford, a town 80 km northwest of Des Moines,
capital of Iowa, and about 30 homes in Woodward, a town 48 km to the south of
the capital.
The tornado sweeping across Ames also caused an emergent evacuation in a
foot-ball stadium full of fans for the Iowa State-Colorado game. Windows of the
stadium were smashed and power lines collapsed, said city spokeswoman Susan
Gwiasda.
According to records, tornadoes are seldom in the United States in this late
a period of the year. However, 22 people lost their lives in another November
tornado attacking western Kentucky and Southwest Indiana last
weekend.
