Du Wei keen to step in for Celtic (Evening Times) Updated: 2005-11-25 08:55 Du Wei has not managed to
make his mark on the Celtic first-team - but that could be about to change.
The Chinese defender has been
working hard to bed into his new surroundings in the east end of Glasgow, a far
cry from what he is used to back home.
Unlike Shunsuke Nakamura, Du Wei had no experience of playing abroad until
Gordon Strachan brought him to Celtic.
It's been quite a learning curve for the 23-year-old internationalist.
Although the Celtic fans haven't seen him in action so far, Bobo Balde's
departure to the African Cup for the month of January could hand Wei a chance to
put his training to good use.
And he said: "Through training, I am getting more and more comfortable.
"I am getting close to the stage where I will be able to play in the first
team.
"I also feel I have learned a lot from Mr Strachan, the coaches and the
players here at Celtic.
"I have my own skills and techniques that I can bring to the team, but the
players and coaches have helped me greatly and I am enjoying life here, both at
Celtic and in Scotland."
