Brazilian fire workers combat fire at the government's
social security archives building in Brasilia December 27, 2005. No
victims were reported. The fire on Tuesday in the Brazilian capital
could have been caused by an arson attack, Social Security Minister Nelson
Machado said at a press conference hours after the fire, which destroyed
the top six floors of the building of Brazil's National Social Security
Institute along with important files, as well as digital copies of all the
proceedings. The fire also ruined many documents containing information on
the collection of debts from business and philanthropic groups. The
result of a police inquiry would be known in
about two weeks, the minister
said.[Reuters] |
