Hewitt's centre court match was delayed for an hour and a half because of a violent thunderstorm but the feisty Australian made up for lost time with an energetic display.

He raced through the opening set in 38 minutes then recovered from 3-0 down to add the second set in 45 minutes and advance to a quarter-final meeting with either Andreas Seppi or Chris Guccione.
