Shanghai order Du back from Celtic (AFP) Updated: 2006-01-20 10:35
GLASGOW (AFP) - Du Wei has been ordered to return to China by his club
Shanghai Shenhua after they refused Scottish Premier League leaders Celtic's
request for an extension to his loan spell.
In September, the 23-year-old defender signed a deal which allowed both
clubs to end Du's loan move in the New Year.
Du's only first team start came in the embarrassing Scottish Cup third round
defeat against Clyde, where he was substituted at half-time, but the Glasgow
giants insisted Thursday they were keen to keep the player at Parkhead.
However, moves to extend Du's loan move foundered over money and now Du is
heading home.
"Clearly, we're disappointed that an agreement couldn't be reached to keep Du
Wei at Celtic," said a club spokesman.
"Everyone at the club sincerely wishes him all the very best for the future."
Former Manchester United hero Roy Keane is set to continue in defence against
Motherwell on Sunday with Stephen McManus suspended and Bobo Balde away on
international duty with Guinea at the African Nations Cup in Egypt.
