Guerrillas massive attacks in mid-western Nepal kill 2 security men (Xinhua) Updated: 2006-01-25 10:24
The anti-government forces launched massive attacks at almost all the
security posts in Nepalgunj, in mid-western Nepal on Tuesday evening, local
police said in Kathmandu Wednesday.
"The guerrillas simultaneously targeted Ward, District and Zonal Police
Offices, Police Training Center, District Administration Office, along with
army's posts with bombs and modern weapons at around in the evening in Banke
district," District Police Office said.
At least two security personnel were killed and eight others were injured in
the attack.
"A state of terror has gripped the locale after the Nepalgunj market, some
600 km west of Kathmandu was rocked with explosions and unabated firing from
early evening," the office said.
The two-way gun battle also erupted at the District Police Office, regional
office of branch of Nepal Rastra Bank, the central bank of the country, and
District Prison.
Series of explosions occurred around the town till late in the
evening.
