Intel aims for increased market share (Shenzhen Daily) Updated: 2006-03-17 14:36
Intel Corp., the world's biggest maker of microchips, said Thursday it
expects to gain market share in China this year, reversing a broader trend of
recent declines at the hands of archival AMD.
The U.S. chip giant has been steadily losing share in recent years both in
China and globally to Advanced Micro Devices, which has mounted a stiff
worldwide campaign, according to various independent data sources.
Intel saw its share of the China market drop to 74 percent in 2004 from 90
percent in 2001, while AMD's share has grown to 18 percent from 5 percent over
the same period.
