Lu Yongxiang, vice-chairman of NPC Standing Committee The following is the biographical sketch of Lu Yongxiang, who was just elected vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC): Male, born in 1942, of Han nationality, a native of Cixi, Zhejiang province. Joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1974 and started to work in 1964. Graduated from Machinery Department of Zhejiang University, 1964; obtained doctorate in Engineering Science at Aachen Industrial University, Federal Republic of Germany, and, with a postgraduate background, a doctorate degree and professorship, served as an academician of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). Studied the Hydraulic Machinery major at the Faculty of Machinery Engineering at Zhejiang University in 1959-64 and Worked as assistant professor and lecturer of the Faculty of Machinery Engineering in Zhejiang University in 1965-79. Served successively as lecturer, associate professor, professor, director of Laboratory of Fluidic Transmission and its Control and Release; vice-president, president, deputy director of Institute of Science and Technology; director of Academic Degrees Committee, and director of Development Commission, of Zhejiang University in 1981-85. Member of the 2nd Panel of Judges of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council; member of National Natural Sciences foundation; vice-president of Zhejiang Provincial Society of Mechanical Engineering; vice-president of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) in 1985-93. Vice-President and deputy secretary of Leading Party Members Group of CAS, and president of Zhejiang University; (academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in 1994); and member of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council in 1993-96. CAS president and secretary of Leading Party Members' Group since 1997; vice-president of 1st Council of China Overseas Friendship Association since 1997; member of State Steering Group of Science, Technology and Education, vice-president of The 3rd World Academy of Sciences since 1998; vice-chairman of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council since January 1999. Alternate member of 12th and 13th CPC Central Committees; member of 14th, 15th and 16th CPC Central Committees. Achieved results in new technology of controlling composition of electrolyte which won 1st class award for scientific and technical progress awarded by State Education Commission in 1985; patented his two-way electrolyte percentage speed-regulating device in Germany and the United States. Author of paper "Research on Two-Way Electrolyte Percentage Control Valve." |
