1st China Beijing High-Tech Expo 1998

The 1st China Beijing International High-tech Expo (then known as "Beijing International High-tech Industry Week") was held at the National Agricultural Exhibition Hall and Great Wall Sheraton Hotel May 11-15, 1998. It was the first grand international gathering on international exchanges and cooperation in the field of high-tech industries.
Successful beginning
A total of 309 companies from 13 countries, such as the United States, Canada, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and China, including Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, attended the event. About 140 world-renowned high-tech entrepreneurs and some governmental and professional delegations also made an appearance at the event.
The exhibition featured 484 exhibition booths, covering an area of 10,000 square meters. Among them, 41 foreign enterprises and foreign enterprises in China occupied 73 exhibition booths, and 286 domestic enterprises, universities, scientific research academies and institutes had 411 booths.
Exciting results
Thirty two contracts and agreements on high-tech cooperation projects between China and other countries were sighed during the week; total investments amounted to US$630 million. Agreements on some 600 projects relating to the introduction of high-tech equipment and technology transfers also came to a close, totaling nearly 1 billion yuan.
