The "Forum on Chinese Enterprises' International Competitiveness" opened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing May 21.
Yao Jingyuan, chief economist and press spokesperson of the National Bureau of Statistics, predicts a healthy economic "soft landing" for the country in the second half of this year.
He warned that the most thorny problem surrounding the country's economy is an overheated fixed-asset investment, which will bring three fatal risks to China's economy: excessive currency and credit issues, acute shortages in coal, electricity, oil and transportation, and price hikes of raw materials.
