Chronology: Major visits between China and Russia since 1992

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao leavesKyrgyz capital Bishkek on Thursday for a two-day visit to Moscow, where he will hold the ninth prime ministers' regular meeting withhis Russian counterpart Mikhail Fradkov.

The following is a chronology of major exchanges of visits between the two countries since 1992:

1992:

Dec. 17-19: Russian President Boris Yeltsin pays his first visit to China.

1994:

May 25-29: Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin visits China. The two sides sign seven agreements.

Sept. 2-6: Chinese President Jiang Zemin pays an official visitto Russia and signs with Russian President Yeltsin a number of important documents, including an agreement on no-first-use of nuclear weapons and de-targeting strategic nuclear weapons at eachother, and on the demarcation of the western section of the borderbetween the two countries.

1995:

May 8-9: Chinese President Jiang visits Moscow to attend the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Fascist War.

June 25-28: Chinese Premier Li Peng pays an official visit to Russia.

1996:

April 24-26: Russian President Yeltsin visits China.

Dec. 26-28: Chinese Premier Li Peng visits Russia and signs with his Russian counterpart, Chernomyrdin, two accords on the construction of the Lianyungang nuclear power station in Jiangsu province in eastern China and on the cooperation between the two central banks.

The visit marks the official start of regular meetings between premiers of the two countries.

1997:

April 22-26: Chinese President Jiang Zemin pays a state visit to Russia and signs a joint declaration with Russian President Yeltsin on the multi-polarization of the world and the building ofa new international order.

June 26-28: Russian Prime Minister Chernomyrdin visits China and holds the second regular meeting between Sino-Russian prime ministers with his Chinese counterpart, Li Peng.

Nov. 9-11: Yeltsin visits China as Russian president for the third time.

1998:

Feb. 17-18: Chinese Premier Li Peng visits Russia and holds thethird regular meeting between the two countries' prime ministers with his Russian counterpart, Chernomyrdin.

July 14: Russian Prime Minister Sergei Kiriyenko visits China.

Nov. 22-25: Chinese President Jiang Zemin visits Russia.

1999:

Feb. 24-27: Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji visits Russia and holds the fourth prime ministers' regular meeting with Russian Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov.

Dec. 9-10: Russian President Yeltsin visits China.

2000:

July 18-19: Russian President Vladimir Putin pays a state visitto China and holds two rounds of talks with Chinese President Jiang Zemin. They sign the Beijing Declaration and a joint statement on the anti-ballistic missile issue. Seven inter-government and inter-department agreements are also signed.

Nov. 3-4: Russian Prime Minster Mikhail Kasyanov visits China and holds the fifth regular meeting of the two countries' prime ministers with his Chinese counterpart, Zhu Rongji.

2001:

July 15-18: Chinese President Jiang Zemin visits Russia. He andRussian President Putin sign a Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.

Sept. 7-12: Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji pays an official visit to Russia and holds the sixth regular meeting of Sino-Russian prime ministers in St. Petersburg with his Russian counterpart, Kasyanov.

2002:

Aug. 21-23: Russian Prime Minster Kasyanov visits China and holds with Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji the seventh regular meetingsof the two countries' prime ministers in Shanghai.

Dec. 1-3: Russian President Putin pays a state visit to China.

2003:

May 26-31: Chinese President Hu Jintao attends the third summitmeeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Moscow. He also attends the celebrations marking the 300th anniversary of thefounding of the city of St. Petersburg.

Sept. 23-25: Russian Prime Minister Kasyanov visits China and holds the eighth regular meeting of the two countries' prime ministers with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.
