Leaders of Chinese groups in Germany issued statements Monday in support of the Anti-Secession Law adopted by the National People's Congress of China.

In a statement, President of the Federation of German-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Li Dequan rapped the Taiwan authorities for intensifying "Taiwan Independence" secessionist activities in recent years by means of "constitutional reform," attempting to make Taiwan secede from the motherland.

Such secessionist activities have posed a severe threat to China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, he added.

Therefore, it is absolutely necessary and opportune for the National People's Congress of China to start a legislation process and pass the Anti-Secession Law, he said.

In addition, opposing and checking "Taiwan independence" by legal means was also a wise and significant decision, fulfilling the need of the cross-Strait situation and reflecting the common will of the Chinese people, he added.

He also said it is a common practice for the countries with civil and common law systems to prevent secessionist activities by legislation and that history has showed that many countries including the United States, Britain and Spain had used legal means to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity.

For his part, honorary president of the federation of Chinese groups in Germany, Fend Dingxian, said in a statement that such a law will effectively check the aggressiveness of the "Taiwan independence" forces, conducive to the cross-Strait peace and stability, to the economic development and common prosperity across the Taiwan Strait and to a peaceful national reunification.

This is a law in the fundamental interest of the Chinese nation,he added.

The Chinese in Germany firmly support and advocate the Anti-Secession Law while hoping the domestic and overseas Chinese would join hands and work together for an early realization of national reunification and rejuvenation.
