Reply to all ! Yapchongyee Updated: 2003-12-14 22:47 I read with some amusement the attitude of all my
friends, but I think the lot of you must be realistic, for both those "for" and
"against".
It is very true that China has made giant strides in her development and also
generally progress in all fields, but then China has been for the most of the
past 2,000 years the leader in the fields of science, military and economics.
China was the fountain of most of the inventions that the Americans and the west
generally claim as their own.
The BBC ran a programme called the "inventions of Ancient China" which lists
most of the inventions that we thought originated in the west but in truth
originated in China. The list is too long to enumerate for the space here.
I notice that most of you take one side or oppose the other; and most of what
your make claim is for the sake of HUBRIS; either for the west of for China. For
me I believe that it does not matter whether China does or does not become the
world's hyper-power. It is this form of hubris that has shaped the foreign
policy of the USA, and this has made the world hate the Americans; who can
tolerate a braggard ?
My wish for China is for the leaders of present China to return to the good
sense of a socialist state that seeks to distribute the wealth of the Chinese
nation in the most equitable manner. To make available to the ordinary man in
the street 3 good meals a day, a strong roof over their heads and live in a
state of JUSTICE ACCORDING TO LAW.
The Bill Gates of the world are only one or two at most. Is this "a good
life" or is it more important that the average Chinese man in the street has
about the same comforts and food to live on ?
Do not forget that there are 1.3 billion people in China; therefore which
genius in the world is able to make 1.3 billion people RICH ? Is it not more
important that the average Chinese be able to earn 100 dollars a month so that
his son or daughter can go to school and his family can have enough to feed his
family 3 meals a day ? This I say is more important than for China to be the
next hyper-power in the world, WHO NEEDS IT ?
