China's lost twenty years!

Lau Guan Kim  Updated: 2004-01-14 00:49

For twenty years, schools and universities were shut down by Mao Zedong's failed Great Leap Forward, and the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution.

I just watched a documentary of that period. What happen here in China Daily forums under the control of chinese bigots, zealots and cyber hooligans is so similar to that period. Liu Shaoqi imprisoned, and his wife drag out for public humiliation. That disturbed my sleep last night.

Twenty years, and those in their fifties and sixties must have lost the opportunity to further their education.

The excesses of the Red Guards almost wrecked China. It has destroyed a generation of the best and brightest of the nation.

China lost twenty years, and what a waste.

If only Mao Zedong died before 1958, he would be much more venerated.

And China would have twenty more years for progress, and a better living for the people.

O, the foolishness of China's leaders in the past.

How I bleed and cry for China!
