University marks centenary of Einstein's Theory of Relativity

The prestigious Lanzhou University in northwest China's Gansu province launched a series of activities Tuesday to commemorate Albert Einstein, the noted scientist who put forward the Theory of Relativity 100 years ago.
2005, the 50th anniversary of the Einstein's death, has been named UNESCO's World Physics Year, said Duan Yishi, a professor with the university.
Duan delivered an academic report to the university students onthe title "Einstein and Relativity," detailing the importance and contribution of Einstein's Principle of Relativity.
A large-scale photo exhibit was held to display the fruitful achievements and scientific research results made in the field of theoretical physics by the Lanzhou University, which is well-knownfor basic science research.
To stimulate development of basic science research, the president of the Lanzhou University, Li Fashen, announced Tuesday the establishment of the Fund of Theoretical Physics and Mathematics by pooling 10 million yuan (1.2 million US dollars).
