SHANGHAI -- James Soong, chairman of the Taiwan based People First Party (PFP), said in Shanghai Thursday that his party will take practical moves to implement the communique issued after the talks between him and Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

"PFP attaches great importance to the cross-Straits relations and hopes to prove that with acts," said Soong at an ongoing forum of elites from both sides of the Taiwan Straits.

The forum is jointly sponsored by the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Policy Research Center of the PFP Central Committee.

The bridge of friendship and mutual trust across the Taiwan Straits should never break and the determination that the Chinese from both sides handle problems between themselves should never change, he said.

"We must actively promote the two sides to move forward, which is also the key purpose and contribution of the forum to the Chinese people from across the Straits," said Soong.
