Chinese teenager breaks men's 1,500m freestyle Asian record

MACAO, November 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese teenager Zhang Lin broke the Asian record in the men's 1,500m freestyle swimming event at the East Asian Games here on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old Zhang clocked 15 minutes 00.27 seconds to shatter the previous mark of 15:09.52 set by Japanese Matsuda Takeshi in April last year.

Zhang claimed the gold medal, while South Korea's Park Tae-hwan was narrowly beaten into second place, just 0.05 seconds behind.

Takeshi took bronze in 15:37.94.
