China reports new bird flu outbreak

A new outbreak of bird flu were reported on a chicken farm in Yijing township of Yangquan city, North China's Shanxi Province, the Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement on Tuesday.

By February 3, over 15,000 chickens had died on the farm. They were confirmed Tuesday to have the deadly H5N1 virus, the statement said.

Some 187,745 chickens in the vicinity of the farm were culled and the outbreak had been brought under control, it said.   

Experts and investigation teams from the Ministry of Agriculture were sent to the region to help deal with the outbreak.
