Traffic accident kills 19 in SW China province

KUNMING, February 12 (Xinhua) -- A traffic accident killed 19 people in Hekou County in the Hani-Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Honghe, Southwest China's Yunnan Province on Saturday.

Eleven people were injured and being treated in a local hospital, according to the local county government.

The accident occurred at 8:40 p.m. on Saturday when Wu Zhenghong, a villager in Dimi Village in Pingbian County was driving a truck overloaded with 29 people along the No. 326 National Highway.

The truck ran into a ditch about 55 meters deep at a zigzag road, about seven kilometers away from Xinjie, a town in Hekou County, according to Tang Wanrong, director of the publicity department in Hekou County.
