Style and hedgehog fungus

Shrewdly placed in the growing area around Dagu Lu, The Canteen is proving to be a handy local restaurant for those wanting to dine in style. Moody evening lighting illuminates the Canteen's sharp black and white contemporary design, creating an excellent atmosphere for night dining.
The menu gives superb choice for whatever kind of meal you're after. The roasted goose (RMB38) was great as an appetizer, followed by the humble-sounding twin mashed potato scoops (RMB16) which are a must have. The fantastically-named hedgehog fungus with broccoli (RMB22) and the old favorite of prawn with noodles (RMB22) were both well executed. The dish that pulled it all together was the meat ball with crab meat (RMB28), which proved filling, tasty and reasonably priced.
The service was fast and efficient without being obtrusive, and made the dining experience very enjoyable. While The Canteen isn't breaking any moulds in its style, it is definitely one of the better places to have a relaxed evening out.
