Panda City name change gains momentum

The campaign to change the name of Chengdu to "Panda City" is gathering pace. After three days of opinion gathering, the majority of city residents agree with the change.

Many noted that the name "Panda City" would be easier for foreigners to remember than "Chengdu," thus helping promote the city's image on the international stage.

Opponents, however, argue that the black and white bamboo-munching layabout is not the only symbol of the city. Before the panda rose to prominence, Chengdu was known as the "city of lotus."

Authorities are still hoping for more public feedback.
