China has actually wasted five hundred years

As long as good Americans can give handholding support to what China can do as a force for peace will go a long way to see China through that period when she has to know and find herself, may be unwillingly, to be a key player for the betterment of the world.
China is finding that she is not the centre of the world with barbarians in her periphery. The old imperial baggage has to be jettisoned and she must open her doors to others and bring in new ideas and innovations, and also that governance is not by imperial edict, but by the voice of the hoi polloi.
Most importantly, China must accept that she has many new ideals and way of doing things to learn from others who are just as civilised as she is.
China must never cocoon herself as in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
She has actually lost five hundred years to Europe when a surge of Renaissance, and later Industrial Revolution, transformed the 'barbarians' to world dominance and key players.
The Middle Kingdom has to catch up by avoiding internal and external turmoil.
