China's commitment on carbon emission reduction is scientific and practical, Chinese premier Wen Jiabao said at a news conference following the China-EU summit Monday, China Daily reported.
"The Chinese government pays high importance to the climate change issue and it has improved significantly by taking certain measures. Last week, China announced its greenhouse gas emission control proposal, which has been demonstrated to be scientific and practical," according to Wen.
Several days ago, China and the US, the two biggest carbon emitting countries, announced their gas emission control proposals. China was to reduce its gas emission by 40 to 45 percent by 2020 compared to 2005, while the US promised a 17 percent cut.
"The initiative is serious and takes great effort. China will take concrete measures to contribute to the world climate change issues. We will do what we said and insist a sustainable way of development," Wen added.
