JINAN - A man who allegedly stabbed a doctor to death and seriously injured a nurse in East China's Shandong province has held a grudge against the hospital where he launched the attacks for 13 years, police said.
The suspect, identified only by his last name, Zhou, stabbed a nurse at Qilu Hospital in the provincial capital, Jinan, on Friday, a day after he killed the doctor, said Sun Lianhe, a spokesman for Jinan police.
Police said the doctor, who was in his 50s, was found dead early on Thursday. The nurse was on Friday receiving emergency treatment for her wounds.
Officers captured Zhou, 45, in the alleyway next to the hospital on Friday, local media reported.
Officers investigating the case said the suspect has held a grudge against the staff at Qilu Hospital for the past 13 years, since they were unable to prevent his father from dying from liver cancer.
Both stabbing victims worked in the hospital's radiology department but police have been unable to confirm whether they treated Zhou's father, said Sun.
Violent disputes between hospitals and patients or their families are not rare in China.
This month, three doctors were severely injured when a man started a fire inside a hospital in North China's Shanxi province.
He is believed to have complained about the treatment he had received from doctors at the hospital.
